start a program

starting a high school club

Starting a high school rugby program can be an exciting venture! It definitely comes with its challenges, but if you're committed to the undertaking we will try to take some of the load off. Here are a few things you should look to complete as you begin the process:

Gather Coaches: Recruit 2 or 3 dedicated coaches who are passionate about rugby and youth development.

Certification: Ensure that at least one coach obtains Level 1 certification to provide proper training and guidance.

Registration: Register all coaches with USA Rugby, which includes completing background checks and obtaining Safe Sport certification.

Practice Location: Identify and secure a suitable location in your community for regular practice sessions.

Recruitment Plan: Develop a strategy to generate interest in the program and attract players through outreach and promotional activities.

With these steps, you'll be well on your way to establishing a successful high school rugby program!

what you can do:

After getting the process started with the above steps we can begin working to provide resources to launch your high school club. Here's some of what we can do:

Provide Start-up Materials: We can supply a start-up drop of supplies for practices. This can include a bag of balls, sets of cones, set of pinnies, and a first aid kit to get you started.

Help with Field Space: If acquiring field space is locked behind a financial barrier we can attempt to alleviate that barrier if we have the resources. Also, if your club is USAR compliant we can provide a certificate of insurance (COI) from NEYRA to the field owner.

Provide Start-up Procedures: As you're starting out it can be hard to keep all your ducks in a row. We can help by adding you to our TeamSnap ecosystem to handle things like collecting sign-ups and communicating with your team. You can use this going forward or in the interim until you develop a solution you prefer.

Marketing Support: We can display your club on our website to filter interested players in your area to you. We can also promote the new opportunity on our social media channels, create physical marketing materials (posters, business cards, etc.), and kickstart independent social media for the club.

Institutional Support: You will be integrated into our NEYRA community which will provide pre-made policy and procedure structures to cover your club. You will also be able to lean on our community from day 1 for support in bouncing ideas around to help with the setup process.

starting a k-5 youth flag program

Starting a K-5 Flag program are rewarding and important for developing rugby long term! It comes with its challenges, but if you're committed to the undertaking we will try to take some of the load off. Here are a few things you should look to complete as you begin the process:

Practice Location: Identify and secure a suitable location in your community for regular practice sessions. We suggest going to your local parks and recreation department to see if you can host the program through them. That way you can use their facilities, procedures, and go under their insurance.

Establish Target Age Range: It's hard to group together wide age ranges (especially with only a couple coaches). So, try to find an age range that you think will be effective for instruction and developmentally appropriate together.

Recruitment Plan: Develop a strategy to generate interest in the program and attract players through outreach and promotional activities.

With these steps, you'll be well on your way to establishing a successful high school rugby program!
