FAQ

1

What Does Registration Come With?

When you register you will be rostered with the team you registered with. This allows you to access the team schedule/calendar, to receive updates from coaches and to chat with coaches and players in TeamSnap.

Base registration also comes with team branded rugby shorts. You can use them for practices, but they are primarily part of your uniform for games.

If your club qualifies you will have the option for an additional $75 cost before Jan. 15th you can order a custom team branded jersey with a selected number (first come first serve) and last name.

Your registration helps us cover costs for hosting our tournaments, funding practice space, affording uniforms and providing materials for better coaching among other operational costs. We thank you for helping us provide all these things for our players across Maine.

2

Refund Policy

When registering for a team the player fee you pay on TeamSnap is fully refundable, no questions asked, up until the conclusion of the first week of practices for your selected club. We do this because we want to make sure you are happy, comfortable, and excited to play before you are locked in. This also provides a level of protection for you for complications that arise within the still growing club sports world that are out of your control (e.g., participation numbers).

The additional thing to keep in mind is that in order to participate in practices you will have to register for USA Rugby (instructions within registration and this FAQ or available any time upon request). This $36.83 is separate from our player fees and subject to USA Rugby’s refund policy, please review that on their site.

For custom jersey orders (number and last name) you may request a refund up until Jan. 14th. This is because on Jan. 15th we submit our order to our kit manufacturer to get the jerseys in time for the season.

USA Youth and High School Rugby Registration

USA Y&HS registration is separate from our player fees. Here are the reasons we require this in order for you to play.

  1. USA Rugby provides insurance to cover our players in the event of an injury for the full season.

  2. It allows our players to compete in USA Rugby sanctioned competitions.

  3. USA Rugby covers our coaches and players in the event of damages caused to equipment or venue.

  4. Compliance allows us to request certified referees for our competitions.

  5. USA Rugby allows us to maintain the compliance of our coaches (proper safety training, background checks, etc.).

The fee is currently $36.83, we do not receive any of this money. This is the reason that it is separate from our player fee. However, we factor this additional cost into our player fees. The instruction to sign-up are contained in registration. However, if you have already registered and are returning to sign up here are the instructions:

To register, first (if you do not have one already) make an account for the player with RugbyXplorer (USA Rugby's registration and education partner): https://myaccount.rugbyxplorer.com.au/dashboard

Then follow this link: https://myaccount.rugbyxplorer.com.au/choose-registration?name=Maine%20High%20School%20Rugby. You'll register using the RugbyXplorer account connected to you and then it will ask you what club you're registering for. If it doesn't automatically fill in then search "Maine High School Rugby" and it will show up. Register for the club as a player.

What About Girls+ Players?

Our girls game is growing slowly, but we know it will boom soon! For right now all of our clubs are co-ed and accepting registrations from all genders. The theory is that this will give girls+ players the ability to play and learn even if we can’t get enough players to create a full team in a given locale. Right now the structure is that 3-7 girls+ players will register for each club and then we will combine these smaller groups to create full teams to compete in games. What we are building towards is each club having their own girls+ team and we hope this structure will allow us to get there soon.

We are a growing club sport in only our second season and this comes with fluctuation in participation that may morph offerings we can provide. We want to be transparent about this. This is especially true right now for our girls game. However, we do not want that to stop you from registering to play! This is why we offer full refunds to player fees up until the conclusion of the first week of practices. This will allow everyone to register and give us a confident sense of participation while also protecting you if for any reason the participation numbers are not up to our goals. So, please register for your local club and know that we will use the official registrations to create the best plans for our girls+ rugby players that we can and that you are protected in the event things don’t work out.

Will I need to purchase additional equipment?

Besides a mouth guard, not really. Basic rugby equipment for practices includes a mouthguard, cleats, and comfortable athletic wear. All of which are not sport specific. So, you can use the equipment (e.g., soccer cleats) from other sports seasons. With the addition of the rugby shorts that come with your registration and us providing the jersey you are good to go! The only additional equipment you may want is a scrum cap, but this is optional. When you fall in love with the sport you may also want a ball for the house!

What are the benefits of my child playing rugby?

At the fundamental level rugby promotes physical fitness, teamwork, discipline, and respect for opponents. Beyond that, rugby offers legitimate college recruiting opportunities and a uniquely welcoming international community. However, one of our players favorite benefits is that rugby presents the opportunity for all players to unlock their "total athlete" potential. No player is prevented from doing anything by a position. Everyone passes, tackles, jukes, kicks, and scores!
